How to Install Shaders in MinecraftMay 11, 2022
Minecraft shaders can completely change the visuals in your Minecraft world. They allow you to customize the game’s performance and balance quality and performance. We will show you how to install Shaders in your Minecraft files.
This guide will use BSL Shaders. But there are many other great Minecraft shaders. To find the right shader for your needs, you can refer to the following list. After you have decided which shader you would like to install follow the remaining steps.

To install this shader, you first need to download and install OptiFine. OptiFine allows you to modify Minecraft’s visuals. It also gives your computer a better performance when rendering the game’s look. Follow the link to learn how to install OptiFine. How to Install Minecraft OptiFine.
Once OptiFine has been installed, it’s time to install the Shader you choose.
Step 1: Download the Shaderpack
Each shader’s direct download page can be found by clicking the links above. The image below shows an example. However, not all download pages will be the same. Your web browser may warn you to avoid downloading files like these. We have linked to the official download page, so you can download them safely.
Step 2: Install the Shaderpack
Shaderpacks installation is easy. Most of the time it’s a simple drag and drop process. This is a major change from the old method where you had to manually modify the files. For this step, follow the instructions below.
Find your .minecraft folder by going to your start/search bar on your desktop and type in %appdata%, and hit Enter. After you have done this, you will see a folder. You will see the.minecraft directory at the very top of the folder. Double-click that folder to open it.
In that folder you will see several Minecraft folders for your game Double-click the folder that says shaderpacks. Now that you have this folder open your Downloads folder (where you installed the shaderpack) in another window. Move the zip shaderpack file into the shaderpacks. This will do it.
Step Three: Select the Shader
Once it’s installed you can simply select it from the game. Open your Minecraft Launcher.
On the bottom, make sure that the version you have selected to play says OptiFine like in the image shown above. This is an important step. Shaderpacks cannot work properly if the version you’re using is different. When you have set this to be the version you’re using, click Play.
Once you have the main title screen for Minecraft open, use the following instructions to select your shaderpack.
Now you will be able to select from the Shaderpacks folder. Choose the version of shaderpack that was just installed. An example of this can be seen in the image below.
